A centrifugal pump is required to pump water to an open water tank sit...
Given:
- Distance from pump to tank = 4 km
- Pipe diameter = 0.2 m
- Darcy's friction factor = 0.01
- Average speed of water in the pipe = 2 m/s
- Constant head in tank = 5 m

To find: Absolute discharge pressure at the pump exit

Formula used:
- Head loss due to friction = f (L/D) (V^2/2g)
- Total head loss = head loss due to friction
- Total head = static head + total head loss
- Absolute discharge pressure = density of water x g x total head

Calculation:
1. Calculate the head loss due to friction:
- Length of pipe = 4 km = 4000 m
- L/D = 4000/0.2 = 20000
- V = 2 m/s
- g = 9.81 m/s^2
- f = 0.01

Head loss due to friction = 0.01 x 20000 x (2^2/2 x 9.81) = 81.64 m

2. Calculate the total head:
- Static head = 5 m
- Total head loss = 81.64 m
- Total head = static head + total head loss = 5 + 81.64 = 86.64 m

3. Calculate the absolute discharge pressure:
- Density of water = 1000 kg/m^3
- g = 9.81 m/s^2

Absolute discharge pressure = 1000 x 9.81 x 86.64 = 8536.63 Pa = 8.53663 bar

Therefore, the correct option is (B) 5.503 bar.
