A mixture contains 1 mole of volatile liquid A ( = 100 mm Hg) and 3 mo...
Given:
1 mole of volatile liquid A ( = 100 mm Hg)
3 moles of volatile liquid B(= 80 mmHg)

To find: Total vapour pressure of the distillate

Solution:
Total number of moles in the mixture = 1 + 3 = 4 moles

Partial pressure of A = mole fraction of A * total pressure
Mole fraction of A = 1/4
Partial pressure of A = (1/4) * 100 = 25 mmHg

Similarly, partial pressure of B = (3/4) * 80 = 60 mmHg

Total vapour pressure of the mixture = partial pressure of A + partial pressure of B
= 25 + 60
= 85 mmHg

Therefore, the correct option is B) 85.88 mmHg.
