Verified Answer
Which one of the following is the strongest acid?a)ClO3(OH)b)ClO2(OH)c...
TIPS/Formulae :
(i) Higher the electronegatively of central atom higher will be the acidic strength.
(ii) In case of same atom higher the value of oxidation state of the metal, higher will be its acidic strength.
The  electronegativity of Cl > S.
Oxidation no. of Cl in ClO3(OH) = + 7 Oxidation no. of  Cl in ClO2(OH) = + 5 Oxidation no. of S in SO(OH)2 = + 4 Oxidation no. of  S in SO2(OH)2 = + 6
∴ ClO3(OH) is the strongest acid.

Strongest Acid among ClO3(OH), ClO2(OH), SO(OH)2 and SO2(OH)2

The strength of an acid depends on its ability to donate a proton (H+ ion). The stronger the acid, the more readily it donates a proton. The acidity of an acid also depends on the stability of its conjugate base. The more stable the conjugate base, the stronger the acid.

ClO3(OH) is the strongest acid among the given options because it has the most electronegative oxygen atom in its structure, which attracts electrons towards itself and makes the hydrogen atom more acidic. The presence of three oxygen atoms with negative charges also stabilizes the resulting anion by delocalizing the negative charge.

On the other hand, ClO2(OH) and SO2(OH)2 have fewer electronegative oxygen atoms, which make it less acidic than ClO3(OH). Furthermore, SO(OH)2 has only one electronegative oxygen atom, which makes it the weakest acid among the given options.

Therefore, the correct answer is option 'A' (ClO3(OH)).

Summary:

- The strength of an acid depends on its ability to donate a proton.
- The acidity of an acid depends on the stability of its conjugate base.
- ClO3(OH) is the strongest acid among the given options because it has the most electronegative oxygen atom in its structure and three oxygen atoms with negative charges, which delocalize the negative charge and stabilize the resulting anion.
