Let the length of the train be D metres and speed of the train be S m/s
Now As per the basic formula of speed,
S = D/T
Where S = Speed, D = Distance, T = Time
As the train passes an electric pole in 30 seconds
S = D/30  ........eq(i)
As train passes a platform 240 m long in 120 seconds
S = (D + 240)/120  .....eq(ii)
from eq(i) and (ii) we get
D/30 = (D + 240)/120
∴ 4D = D + 240
∴ 3D = 240
∴ D = 80 m
