Types of Layouts

Product Layout

This layout is suitable for manufacturing where a large volume of a single product is produced. The layout is efficient, and it minimizes material handling costs. However, it is inflexible, and it cannot adapt to changes in production needs.

Hybrid Layout
In hybrid layout, a combination of process and product layout is used. This layout is suitable for manufacturing where a variety of products are produced, but each product requires a similar sequence of operations. The layout is flexible and efficient, but it requires complex production planning.

Fixed-Position Layout
In fixed-position layout, the product is stationary, and the equipment is moved around it to perform different operations. This layout is suitable for manufacturing where large products are produced, such as ships and aircraft. The layout is efficient, but it requires a large space and specialized equipment.

Connection between Group Technology and Hybrid Layout
