Given Information:



  • Cost of the machine = Rs. 2,50,000

  • Estimated scrap value = Rs. 10,000

  • Total production capacity = 30,000 units

  • Pattern of production over the next 4 years:


    • 2010 - 6,250 units

    • 2011 - 2,275 units

    • 2012 - 12,000 units

    • 2013 - 3,452 units




Solution:



  • Depreciation per unit = (Cost of the machine - Estimated scrap value) / Total production capacity

  • Depreciation per unit = (2,50,000 - 10,000) / 30,000 = Rs. 8.33

  • Total depreciation for each year can be calculated by multiplying the depreciation per unit with the units produced in that year

  • Total depreciation for 2010 = 6,250 x 8.33 = Rs. 52,062.50

  • Total depreciation for 2011 = 2,275 x 8.33 = Rs. 18,935.75

  • Total depreciation for 2012 = 12,000 x 8.33 = Rs. 99,960

  • WDV of the machine after 3rd year = Cost of the machine - Total depreciation for first 3 years

  • WDV of the machine after 3rd year = 2,50,000 - (52,062.50 + 18,935.75 + 99,960) = Rs. 79,041.75
