24-member Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, headed by Vinay P Sahasrabuddhe has recommended body wearable cameras for traffic policemen and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) officials enforcing the Motor Vehicles Act. Committee expects that body wearable cameras will reduce arbitrariness and corruption by the enforcement officials. It has prescribed that offences recorded through these body wearable cameras should be digitally stored and monitored in the control room. The committee has also recommended registration of vehicles by dealers and non-production of vehicles at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). The panel made these recommendations after examining the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
