Verified Answer
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert:a)Sugar and sunl...
Plants are autotrophs, which means they produce their own food. They use the process of photosynthesis to transform water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide into oxygen, and simple sugars that the plant uses as fuel.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert:a)Sugar and sunl...
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants produce their own food. It is a vital process that occurs in the chloroplasts of the plant cells. During photosynthesis, plants use energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce glucose and oxygen. Glucose is a type of sugar that plants use as energy to grow and carry out their metabolic functions. Oxygen is released into the atmosphere as a by-product of photosynthesis.

Process of Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis can be divided into two stages: the light-dependent reactions and the light-independent reactions.

The Light-Dependent Reactions

The light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts. During this stage, light energy is absorbed by pigments called chlorophyll, which is located in the thylakoid membranes. The energy is used to split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen ions. The oxygen is released into the atmosphere, while the hydrogen ions are used to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and NADPH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate), which are energy-rich molecules.

The Light-Independent Reactions

The light-independent reactions, also known as the Calvin cycle, occur in the stroma of the chloroplasts. During this stage, the ATP and NADPH produced in the light-dependent reactions are used to convert carbon dioxide into glucose. This process is also known as carbon fixation.

Conversion of Carbon Dioxide and Water into Sugar and Oxygen

The overall equation for photosynthesis is:

6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy → C6H12O6 + 6O2

During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) are converted into glucose (C6H12O6) and oxygen (O2). Carbon dioxide is absorbed from the atmosphere through tiny openings on the leaves, called stomata. Water is absorbed from the soil through the roots and transported to the leaves through the xylem. In the chloroplasts, carbon dioxide and water are converted into glucose and oxygen through the process of photosynthesis.

Conclusion

In conclusion, photosynthesis is a vital process that occurs in plants, which allows them to produce their own food using energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water are converted into glucose and oxygen in two stages: the light-dependent reactions and the light-independent reactions. The end result of photosynthesis is the production of glucose, which is used as energy by the plant, and oxygen, which is released into the atmosphere.
