Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is set up under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). AIM is a flagship initiative of the Government of India to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across the country. It was launched in 2016 as part of the NITI Aayog, which is a policy think tank of the Government of India.
The objective of AIM is to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth of India. It aims to encourage and support innovation-driven enterprises, startups, and research and development activities in various sectors. AIM focuses on creating an ecosystem that nurtures innovation and provides a platform for young innovators to showcase their ideas and develop their skills.
AIM comprises several key initiatives and programs that aim to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. These include:
1. Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL): ATLs are dedicated innovation workspaces established in schools across India. These labs provide students with the opportunity to tinker, experiment, and innovate. They are equipped with tools, equipment, and resources to facilitate hands-on learning and promote problem-solving skills.
2. Atal Incubation Centers (AIC): AICs are incubation centers set up to support startups and early-stage entrepreneurs. These centers provide mentoring, networking, and other support services to help startups grow and succeed. AICs focus on sectors such as technology, manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and clean energy.
3. Atal Community Innovation Centers (ACIC): ACICs are innovation centers established at the district level to promote grassroots innovation. These centers provide access to resources, mentorship, and training to individuals and communities with innovative ideas. ACICs aim to foster a culture of innovation at the grassroots level and encourage local problem-solving.
4. Atal New India Challenges (ANIC): ANIC is a platform that invites startups and innovators to solve specific problems faced by various sectors. It provides a platform for collaboration between industry, academia, and startups to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
By setting up AIM under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the government aims to integrate innovation and entrepreneurship with skill development initiatives. This integration helps in creating a more favorable environment for startups and encourages the development of innovative solutions to address various socio-economic challenges in India.
