In 2000, manufacturing cost of an item was Rs. 428. It increased by 5%...
Given:
- Manufacturing cost of an item in 2000 = Rs. 428
- Increase in manufacturing cost in successive years: 5%, 6%, 4%
- Decrease in manufacturing cost in the fourth year: 7%
- Selling price of the item in 2004 = Rs. 598

To find:
- Profit earned from selling the item in 2004

Approach:
1. Calculate the manufacturing cost of the item in each of the successive years after 2000.
2. Calculate the total increase in manufacturing cost over the four years.
3. Calculate the manufacturing cost of the item in 2004.
4. Calculate the profit by subtracting the manufacturing cost in 2004 from the selling price in 2004.

Calculation:

Year 2001:
- Increase in manufacturing cost: 5% of Rs. 428 = 0.05 * 428 = Rs. 21.40
- Manufacturing cost in 2001: Rs. 428 + Rs. 21.40 = Rs. 449.40

Year 2002:
- Increase in manufacturing cost: 6% of Rs. 449.40 = 0.06 * 449.40 = Rs. 26.96
- Manufacturing cost in 2002: Rs. 449.40 + Rs. 26.96 = Rs. 476.36

Year 2003:
- Increase in manufacturing cost: 4% of Rs. 476.36 = 0.04 * 476.36 = Rs. 19.05
- Manufacturing cost in 2003: Rs. 476.36 + Rs. 19.05 = Rs. 495.41

Year 2004:
- Decrease in manufacturing cost: 7% of Rs. 495.41 = 0.07 * 495.41 = Rs. 34.68
- Manufacturing cost in 2004: Rs. 495.41 - Rs. 34.68 = Rs. 460.73

Profit:
- Selling price in 2004: Rs. 598
- Profit earned: Rs. 598 - Rs. 460.73 = Rs. 137.27

Rounding off the profit to the nearest integer, the profit earned is Rs. 137.
