Amoeba has no definite shapes unlike other organism. It keep changing its shapes. For that it has something called pseudopodia. (pseudo means false and podia means feet)

Pseudopodia are false feet of amoeba. These are temporary projections of the cell membrane of amoeba which help in movement, feeding and capturing prey.

Structure of Pseudopodia
- Pseudopodia are made up of cytoplasm and cell membrane.
- They are constantly changing in shape and size.

Functions of Pseudopodia
1. Movement: Pseudopodia help amoeba to move in different directions. Amoeba extends pseudopodia in the direction of movement and then pulls the rest of the body forward.

2. Feeding: Amoeba uses pseudopodia to capture food. When amoeba senses food, it extends pseudopodia around the food particle and engulfs it. This process is known as phagocytosis.

3. Capturing prey: Pseudopodia also help amoeba to capture prey. When amoeba senses the presence of a prey, it extends pseudopodia and engulfs the prey.

4. Sensing the environment: Pseudopodia also help amoeba to sense the environment. Amoeba extends pseudopodia in different directions to detect the presence of food, prey or any other environmental changes.
