1. Padma Shri Award: Bismillah Khan was awarded the Padma Shri in 1961 for his contribution to Indian classical music. This was the first of many awards that he received in his lifetime.
2. Bharat Ratna: In 2001, Bismillah Khan was awarded the Bharat Ratna, which is the highest civilian award in India. He was the third musician to receive this award after M. S. Subbulakshmi and Ravi Shankar.
