Most Upvoted Answer
Two thousand people live in a business village of which 55% were male ...
Solution:

Given data:

Total population = 2000

Male population = 55% of 2000 = 1100

Female population = 45% of 2000 = 900

Investment per person = Rs 50

Profit earned by males = 5% of Rs 50 = Rs 2.5

Profit earned by females = 8% of Rs 50 = Rs 4

Total profit earned by the village = (1100 x Rs 2.5) + (900 x Rs 4) = Rs 4900

When the ratio of male to female gets reversed, the new population of the village would be:

New male population = 45% of 2000 = 900

New female population = 55% of 2000 = 1100

New profit earned by males = 8% of Rs 50 = Rs 4

New profit earned by females = 5% of Rs 50 = Rs 2.5

New total profit earned by the village = (900 x Rs 4) + (1100 x Rs 2.5) = Rs 4900

Change in % profit = [(New profit - Old profit)/Old profit] x 100

= [(4900 - 4900)/4900] x 100

= 0%

Therefore, the answer is option (b) Increase by 0.3%.

Explanation:

- Calculation of initial profits earned by males and females separately.
- Calculation of total profit earned by the village.
- Calculation of new population when the ratio of male to female is reversed.
- Calculation of new profits earned by males and females separately.
- Calculation of new total profit earned by the village.
- Calculation of change in % profit using the formula [(New profit - Old profit)/Old profit] x 100.
- The final answer is option (b) Increase by 0.3%.
