Location of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands at the southeastern edge of the Bay of Bengal. They are located in the Indian Ocean, about 1370 km east of the Indian mainland. The archipelago consists of 572 islands, out of which only 38 are inhabited.

Geography of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Nicobar Islands are situated to the south of the Andaman Islands and are separated from them by a channel known as the Ten Degree Channel. They are formed by submarine mountains that are an extension of the Arakan Yoma range. The highest point in the Nicobar Islands is Mount Thullier, which rises to a height of 642 meters.
