Given, a pipe of diameter d can drain a certain water tank in 40 minutes.
Let the volume of the tank be V.
Let the rate of flow of water through the pipe of diameter d be R.
Then, using the formula
Volume = Rate x Time
V = R x 40
=> R = V/40
Now, let the rate of flow of water through the pipe of diameter 2d be R'.
We know that the volume of the tank is the same and the time taken to drain it is also the same.
Therefore, using the formula
Volume = Rate x Time
V = R' x T
where T is the time taken by the pipe of diameter 2d to drain the tank.
Substituting the value of R in the above equation, we get
V = (V/40) x T'
