Difference between frictional and gravitational force?
Most Upvoted Answer
Difference between frictional and gravitational force?
Frictional Force:
Frictional force is a force that opposes the motion of an object when it comes into contact with another object. This force arises due to the irregularities in the surfaces of the two objects that come into contact with each other. Frictional force can be of two types: static friction and kinetic friction.

- Static Friction: Static friction is the force that opposes the motion of an object when it is at rest. It is the maximum force that needs to be overcome in order to set an object in motion.
- Kinetic Friction: Kinetic friction is the force that opposes the motion of an object that is already in motion. It is also known as sliding friction.

Gravitational Force:
Gravitational force is the force of attraction between any two objects in the universe. This force is dependent on the mass of the objects and the distance between them. Gravitational force is always an attractive force, which means that it pulls two objects towards each other.

- Gravitational force is directly proportional to the mass of the objects. The greater the mass of the objects, the greater the gravitational force between them.
- Gravitational force is inversely proportional to the distance between the objects. The farther apart the objects are, the weaker the gravitational force between them.

Differences between Frictional and Gravitational Force:
The main differences between frictional and gravitational force are:

- Frictional force arises due to the contact between two surfaces, whereas gravitational force exists between any two objects in the universe.
- Frictional force opposes the motion of an object, whereas gravitational force is always attractive.
- Frictional force is dependent on the roughness of the surfaces in contact, whereas gravitational force is dependent on the mass and distance between the objects.
- Frictional force can be overcome by applying a force in the opposite direction, whereas gravitational force cannot be overcome.
