Formula Sheet for RAY OPTICS
Ray Optics is an important topic in NEET Physics. It deals with the study of light and its interaction with various materials. In order to score well in NEET, candidates should have a good understanding of the concepts and formulas related to Ray Optics. Here is a formula sheet for Ray Optics that will help NEET aspirants in their preparation.
1. Reflection
- Angle of incidence (i) = Angle of reflection (r)
- Incident ray, reflected ray and normal to the surface at the point of incidence, all lie in the same plane.
- u = Object distance from the mirror
- v = Image distance from the mirror
- f = Focal length of the mirror
2. Refraction
- Snell's law: n1sinθ1 = n2sinθ2
- Incident ray, refracted ray and normal to the surface at the point of incidence, all lie in the same plane.
- u = Object distance from the surface
- v = Image distance from the surface
- f = Focal length of the surface
- Power of a lens = 1/f
- Lens maker's formula: 1/f = (n2 - n1) * (1/R1 - 1/R2)
3. Lens Formula
- 1/f = 1/v - 1/u
- Magnification (m) = -v/u
4. Prism
- Refractive index of a prism: μ = sin((A+D/2)/2) / sin(A/2)
- Angle of deviation: δ = (μ - 1) * A
5. Optical Instruments
- Magnifying power of a microscope: MP = (angular magnification of the objective) * (angular magnification of the eyepiece)
- Magnifying power of a telescope: MP = (focal length of the objective) / (focal length of the eyepiece)
Conclusion
NEET aspirants should be well-versed with the concepts and formulas related to Ray Optics to perform well in the exam. This formula sheet will serve as a helpful guide for students to revise the important formulas and equations related to Ray Optics.
