6. Observe the color change of the paper. If the blue litmus paper turns red, the substance is acidic. If there is no color change, the substance is neutral.

Interpretation:
- If the red litmus paper turns blue, the substance is basic.
- If the blue litmus paper turns red, the substance is acidic.
- If both papers show no color change, the substance is neutral.

Precautions:
- Handle the litmus paper with clean, dry hands to avoid contamination.
- Use a small amount of the substance to be tested to prevent excess absorption by the paper.
- Dispose of used litmus paper properly.
