Ashvathama was the son of guru Dronacharya,he battled from side of the kauravas and was at that side till the end. From my point of view, I didn't think he was a good person as his father..because he didn't fought like kshatriya or a warrior, but does a disgraceful thing...he assassinated the five sons of Draupadi,thought that they were the five pandava brothers. He was determined as 'amar' or immortal, and had a jewel on his forehead.
He also had intentions of killing the son of Abhimanyu but Lord Krishna put out his intentions and asked to cut out the jewel on his forehead,and protected the son of Uttara and Abhimanyu.
