The correct answer is Option C.
ROASTING 
The removal of the excess sulphur contained in sulphide ores by heating in an excess of air is called roasting. The concentrated sulphide ore is heated in a reverberatory furnace, below its melting point or fusion temperature in the presence of an excess of air with or without the addition of an external substance. 
In roasting definite chemicals like oxidation, chlorination etc. take place but in calcination does not occur any major chemical changes.
 
Advantages of Roasting :
(i) Excess of sulphur is removed as volatile oxide. 
(ii) The metal sulphide is converted into metal oxide and sulphate. 
(iii) Impurities of arsenic and antimony are removed as their volatile oxides.

(i) Conversion of sulphide to oxide and sulphate:

For example, the roasting of hydrated iron ore (Fe2O3·xH2O) removes the water molecules and converts it into anhydrous iron oxide (Fe2O3).

(iii) Melting the ore:
Roasting does not typically involve melting the ore. Melting is usually carried out in a separate process called smelting, where the roasted ore is mixed with a reducing agent and heated to a high temperature to extract the metal.

(iv) Removal of arsenic and sulphur impurities:
Roasting can also be used to remove impurities such as arsenic and sulphur from the ore. Arsenic is often present in sulphide ores as an impurity, and roasting helps in converting it into a volatile form (arsenic trioxide) that can be easily separated. Sulphur impurities are also converted into sulphur dioxide gas during roasting.

Therefore, the correct statements are (i), (ii), and (iv). Roasting is used to convert sulphide to oxide and sulphate, remove water of hydration, and remove arsenic and sulphur impurities from the ore.
