Removal of poverty has been the biggest challenge inindia.The Indian government is dealing the same with two methods by promotinggrowth and by anti-poverty programme.
The major anti-poverty programme suggested by the Govt.of india are asfollows:
1) Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA):
It is also aimed at sustainabledevelopment to address the causes of draught, deforestation and soil erosion.
One third of the propose job hasbeen reserved for women .
The scheme provides employment to to 20 crores person days ofemployment 4.78 crore household.
The share of SC, ST, womenperson-days in the scheme at 23% 17% and 53% respectively.
The average wage has increased from 65 in 2006-07 to 132 in 2013 -14.
2) Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana (PMRY):
This is under the scheme which was started in 1993.
The aim of the programme is tocreate self- employment opportunities for educated unemployment youth in ruralareas and small towns. They are helped setting up small business and industries.
3) Rural Employment generation programme (REGP) :
This was launch in 1995. The aim of the program is tocreate self employment opportunities in rural areas and small town. A targetfor creating 25 Lakh new jobs has been set for the program under the Tenth FiveYear Plan.
4) Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) :
This was launched in 1999. The programme aims atbringing the assisted poor families above the poverty line by organizing theminto self help groups through a mix of bank credit and government subsidy.
5) Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana (PMGAY) :
PMGAY is a government flagship programme, created forproviding housing for the Indian rural poor. A similar scheme for urban poorwas launched in 2015 as Housing for All. For BPL population, similar programwas launched by late PM Rajiv Gandhi, known as INdira Awaas Yojana ehich one ofthe major flagship programs.
