Solution:

Given, radius of the drum, r = 1.25 m

Let the maximum rotational speed of the drum be n rpm.

We know that the centrifugal force acting on an object moving in a circle is given by:

F = mrω²

where m is the mass of the object, r is the radius of the circle, and ω is the angular velocity of the object.

For the mixture in the drum, the centrifugal force acting on it should be less than or equal to its weight, so that it does not stick to the wall of the drum.

Let the mass of the mixture be M.

At the maximum rotational speed of the drum, the centrifugal force acting on the mixture is given by:

F = Mg = Mrω²

where g is the acceleration due to gravity.

Solving for ω, we get:

ω = √(g/r)

Substituting the given values, we get:

ω = √(9.8/1.25) ≈ 2.76 rad/s

Converting this to rpm, we get:

n = ω/(2π) × 60 ≈ 27.7 rpm

Therefore, the maximum rotational speed of the drum to ensure proper mixing of the concrete mixture is close to 27.0 rpm, which is given in option D.
