Photosynthesis Definition:
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods with the help of chlorophyll. It is the process through which plants create their food by converting carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.

Process of Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis involves two main stages: the light-dependent reactions and the light-independent reactions. The light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplasts, while the light-independent reactions occur in the stroma of the chloroplasts.

Light-dependent reactions:
1. Absorption of light energy - the chlorophyll in the thylakoid membrane absorbs light energy from the sun.
2. Conversion of light energy into chemical energy - the absorbed light energy is converted into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH.
3. Splitting of water - water molecules are split into oxygen, hydrogen ions, and electrons. The oxygen is released into the atmosphere, while the hydrogen ions and electrons are used in the next stage.

Light-independent reactions:
1. Carbon fixation - carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is fixed into a stable organic molecule using the energy from ATP and NADPH.
2. Reduction - the fixed carbon dioxide is reduced to form glucose.
3. Regeneration - some of the molecules produced in the previous steps are used to regenerate the molecule that accepts carbon dioxide in the first step.

Importance of Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is important for the following reasons:
1. It is the primary source of food for most living organisms.
2. It releases oxygen into the atmosphere, which is necessary for the survival of most living organisms.
3. It helps to regulate the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which is important for the health of the planet.
