It is given that the distance travelled in each direction is the same.
Also, the effective speeds are in the ratio (10 - 6) : (10 + 6) = 1 : 4
Therefore, the time taken to travel upstream and time taken to travel downstream are in the ratio

Given data:
Speed of the boat in still water = 10 m/s
Speed of the stream = 6 m/s

Let the distance covered be 'd'
Let the time taken to cover the distance upstream be 't1'
Let the time taken to cover the distance downstream be 't2'

Formula:
Speed of boat upstream = (Speed of boat in still water) - (Speed of stream)
Speed of boat downstream = (Speed of boat in still water) + (Speed of stream)
Time = Distance/Speed

Calculation:
Speed of boat upstream = 10 - 6 = 4 m/s
Time taken to cover the distance upstream = d/4 = t1
Speed of boat downstream = 10 + 6 = 16 m/s
Time taken to cover the distance downstream = d/16 = t2

Ratio of time taken = t1/t2
= (d/4) / (d/16)
= 16/4
= 4:1

Therefore, the ratio of the time taken to cover a particular stretch of distance in each direction is 4:1.
