Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an internet standard protocol used for managing devices on IP networks. It is a protocol used for network management and monitoring of network-connected devices in the IP networks.

Functionality of SNMP

Components of SNMP

SNMP Architecture

The SNMP architecture consists of the following layers:

2) Presentation layer - This layer is responsible for encoding and decoding messages sent between the SNMP manager and agent.
3) Session layer - This layer establishes and manages communication sessions between the SNMP manager and agent.

6) Data link layer - This layer is responsible for the physical transmission of data between devices.

SNMP Versions

There are three versions of SNMP:

3) SNMPv3 - The latest version of SNMP, which includes additional security features such as encryption and authentication.
