Verified Answer
Lalit sold an article for Rs. 15,000. Had he offered a discount of 10%...
GIVEN:
Selling Price = Rs. 15000
Discount = 10%
Profit = 8%
FORMULA USED:
Selling Price after Discount = Selling Price (earlier) – Discount % × Selling Price
8% conversion to fraction
8% = 8/100
CALCULATION:
After Discount = 15000 – 10% of 15000 = 13500
now 8% = 2/25
Selling Price = 25 + 2 units = 27 units = 13500
1 unit = 500
25 unit = 500 × 25 = 12500

Lalit sold an article for Rs. 15,000. Had he offered a discount of 10%...
Given information:
Lalit sold an article for Rs. 15,000 with no discount.

Let's assume the cost price of the article is CP.

If Lalit had offered a discount of 10% on the selling price:
Selling Price (SP) after 10% discount = 15000 - 0.10*15000 = Rs. 13500

Profit earned:
Profit% = 8%
Profit = 8% of CP
Profit = 0.08 * CP

Equation:
SP = CP + Profit
13500 = CP + 0.08 * CP
13500 = 1.08 * CP
CP = 13500 / 1.08
CP = Rs. 12500
Therefore, the cost price of the article is Rs. 12,500. Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.
