Calculation of Corrected Staff Reading at Point A

Given:

  • Distance between instrument and point A = 1.5 km (1500 m)

  • Staff reading at point A = 3.46 m

Formula:
Corrected staff reading = Instrument height + Staff reading - Reduced level of point A

Calculation:

  • Assuming the instrument height is 1.5 m

  • Reduced level of the point A is the sum of the height of instrument and the vertical distance between the instrument and point A

  • Vertical distance between instrument and point A = square root of (distance^2 - instrument height^2)

  • Vertical distance between instrument and point A = square root of ((1500m)^2 - (1.5m)^2)

  • Vertical distance between instrument and point A = 1499.98 m

  • Reduced level of point A = 1.5m + 1499.98m = 1501.48 m

  • Corrected staff reading = 1.5m + 3.46m - 1501.48m = -1496.52 m

Therefore, the corrected staff reading at point A is -1496.52 m.

Calculate the corrected staff reading at point A if the staff reading ...
Distance = 1.5 km, and Staff reading = 3.46 m

Correction = -0.0673 × (1.5)2 = 0.15 m

Corrected staff reading = 3.46 – 0.15 = 3.31 m
