Full form of USSR
The full form of USSR is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It was a federal socialist state that existed from 1922 to 1991, comprising of 15 constituent republics. The USSR was the largest country in the world by land area, spanning over two continents, with a population of over 293 million people.
History
The USSR was formed on December 30, 1922, after the Russian Revolution of 1917, which overthrew the Russian Provisional Government led by Alexander Kerensky. The Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, seized power and established the first socialist state in the world, known as the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR).
The RSFSR was later joined by other Soviet republics, including Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
Government and Economy
The USSR was a federal socialist state, with power divided between the central government and the republics. The central government was led by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), with the General Secretary serving as the head of state. The economy was centrally planned and controlled by the state, with all major industries and resources owned by the government.
Collapse
The USSR collapsed in 1991, following a period of political and economic turmoil. The collapse was triggered by a number of factors, including the political and economic reforms of Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, the rise of nationalist movements in the Soviet republics, and the collapse of the Soviet economy.
On December 25, 1991, the Soviet Union was officially dissolved, and its constituent republics became independent states. The collapse of the Soviet Union marked the end of the Cold War and the beginning of a new era in world history.
