Parts of a DC Machine Not Subjected to Iron Loss

The following parts of a DC machine are not subjected to iron loss:

1. Pole Core: The pole core is the part of the machine that provides the magnetic flux required for the operation of the machine. It is made of high-quality magnetic material, which has low hysteresis and eddy current losses. Therefore, the pole core is not subjected to iron loss.

2. Brushes: The brushes are used to supply current to the rotor winding of the machine. They are made of carbon or graphite, which has low electrical resistance and high thermal conductivity. Since the brushes are not made of magnetic material, they are not subjected to iron loss.

3. Yoke: The yoke is the part of the machine that supports the pole core and the armature core. It is made of high-quality magnetic material, which has low hysteresis and eddy current losses. Therefore, the yoke is not subjected to iron loss.

4. Armature Core: The armature core is the part of the machine that carries the armature winding. It is made of high-quality magnetic material, which has low hysteresis and eddy current losses. Therefore, the armature core is not subjected to iron loss.

Conclusion

In a DC machine, the pole core, brushes, yoke, and armature core are the parts that are not subjected to iron loss. These parts are made of high-quality magnetic material, which has low hysteresis and eddy current losses. Therefore, they are not affected by iron loss, which is a major source of energy loss in electrical machines.

Consider the following parts of a dc machine:1. Pole core2. Brushes3.Y...
Brushes are made of carbon steel or just carbon so no iron losses is possible in brushes , Yoke is just to provide structural support and is made of wrought iron , No iron loss is in it too , now remains pole core , Remember if instead of pole core it is pole shoe  , Then Losses can occur in these shoes ,  as  in dc machine pole shoe is laminated to reduce eddy losses , However pole core means the area surrounded by static field , there is hardly any change in the magnitude of field , Thus No hysterisis loss or eddy loss  in pole core but if you look at pole shoe , then it covers and interact with Armature field , thus armature reaction affects its field and interact with pole shoe , Thus Iron loss can occur at pole shoe but not in pole core . However we nearly consider all armature core as a source of iron losses as losses in pole shoe isn't that significant
