Direction: Study the following information carefully and answer the question given below.
A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting in a straight line equidistant from each other (but not necessarily in the same order). Some of them are facing south, while some are facing north (Note: Facing the same direction means if one is facing north, then the other also faces north and vice-versa. Facing the opposite directions means if one is facing north, then the other faces south and vice-versa). F is the immediate neighbour of E and B. B is not facing the same direction as F and G. C is not an immediate neighbour of A or H but faces the same direction as A and H. H is not an immediate neighbour of G. G is second to the left of E, who is facing south. D is fourth to the right of H and both are facing opposite directions.
What is the position of C with respect to D?
  • a)
    Second to the left
  • b)
    Second to the right
  • c)
    Third to the left
  • d)

Given information:
- A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting in a straight line equidistant from each other.
- F is the immediate neighbour of E and B.
- B is not facing the same direction as F and G.
- C is not an immediate neighbour of A or H but faces the same direction as A and H.
- H is not an immediate neighbour of G.
- G is second to the left of E, who is facing south.
- D is fourth to the right of H and both are facing opposite directions.

To find: The position of C with respect to D.

Solution:

Step 1: Draw a rough diagram to represent the given information.

G _ _ E _ _ F _ _ B _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ A _ _ C _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ H _ _ _ _ D

Step 2: Analyze the given information and make the following inferences.

- E is facing south and G is second to the left of E. Therefore, G is also facing south.
- F is the immediate neighbour of E and B. Therefore, F and B are facing north.
- C is not an immediate neighbour of A or H but faces the same direction as A and H. Therefore, A, C, and H are facing the same direction.
- B is not facing the same direction as F and G. Therefore, B is facing south.
- H is not an immediate neighbour of G. Therefore, H is not sitting adjacent to G.
- D is fourth to the right of H and both are facing opposite directions. Therefore, D is facing north.

Step 3: Find the position of C with respect to D.

- From the diagram, we can see that C is second to the left of A.
- A is sitting to the left of D. Therefore, C is second to the left of D.

Answer: Therefore, the position of C with respect to D is second to the left. Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.
