I have a certain number of marbles to divide equally among 18 boys. If the number of marbles and the number of boys each were increased by two, each boy would receive 5 marbles less. How many marbles do I have to distribute?

and the number of boys = 18 ; then
Each boy will receive = x/18 marbles
If number of marbles and number of boys increased by two ; then
Each boy will receive
= (x - 2)/(18 + 2)
= (x - 2)/20 marbles
which is 5 marbles less than earlier ;
(x - 2)/20 = (x/18) - 5
(x/20) - (1/10) = (x/18) - 5
5 - (1/10) = (x/18) - (x/20)
(50 - 1)/10 = (10x - 9x)/180
49/10 = x/180
x = (49/10) x 180
x = 49 x 18
x = 882
Hence the number of marbles being distributed is 882.
