Amrita (A), Babita (B), Clara (C) and Dave (D) were 4 friends playing a badminton tournament with some new rules. They played in such a way that everyone got a chance to play against the others exactly once in the first round. In the second round, however, the players with the two highest points in Round 1 played against each other. In case of a tie, the player who won the head on head match goes to the next round. The rules are mentioned below:
  1. Each game is played for a maximum of 3 sets and the player who wins two sets first wins the match. 
  2. Each set gets finished after a player scores a minimum of 21 points with a lead of 2 or more points. In a case when both the players reach 20 each, the first one to lead by 2 points wins the set.
  3. The difference between the net points scored and net points conceded in all the 3 sets of a match is termed as score difference (SD). If a player wins a match with a non-negative SD, the player gets 3 points. A winner with a negative SD will get 1 point. A loser with a non-negative SD will get 0 points and a loser with a negative SD will be penalised with 1 point.

If we look at the points table carefully, we see that B scores 5 points, which is only possible with (1) 3+1+1 points or (2) 3+3-1 in 3 games. 
CASE 1: B scores 3+1+1
So, he must have won all the three games he played and he won one game with a positive SD and won two games with a negative SD. B has a positive SD in the match between B and C, where he scored (21+18+21)= 60 points and conceded (17+21+15)= 53 points. Therefore in the match between B and A and in that between B and D, B won with negative point difference. 
Also, we can see that in the match between A-D and C-D, the game ended in 2 sets with D and C winning respectively. Both won by positive SD.
So, we can fill the first table to some extent and it will look like:

Now, the points table reveal that C scored only 1 point in the entire match. With the help of the table shown above, C has already won 1 match with a positive SD and lost 1 against B with negative SD. Therefore, C must have scored 1 point with (3-1-1) points in three matches. Hence, C lost against A with a negative SD. The table will now look like:

Using this information, we can fill up the points table:
A won against C with positive SD (+3), lost against B with positive SD (0) and lost to D with negative SD (-1). Total points = 2.
D won against A with positive SD (3), lost to B with positive SD (0) and lost to C with negative SD (-1). Total points = 2. 

There is a tie between A and D. In the match between A and D, D was the winner. So, the next round will be played between D and B. 
CASE 2: B scores 3+3-1-

B wins only two games but with positive SD, which is possible only in the matches between A-B and B-C. Therefore, the match between B-D will be won by D with a positive SD, such that B gets -1.
In the match between A-D, D has already won with positive SD and in the match between C-D, C won with a positive SD.
So, C scores -1 in the match B-C, and 3 in the match C-D. Therefore, C scores -1 in the match A-C so that the total points scored by C becomes 1 and hence we get the table above.
The points scored by all the four players thus becomes:

Case 3- B scores 3+3-1: B scores 3 points with SD=0 in the match A-B.
In the match A-B, A gets 0 and B scores 3 points.
In A-C, A scores 3 and C scores -1.
In A-D, D scores 3 and A scores -1.
In B-C, B scores 3 and C scores -1.
In B-D, B scores -1 and D scores 3.
And in C-D, C scores 3 and D scores -1.
The points scored by all the four players thus becomes:
In the options, we know that B wins the third set, hence we will look only at case 1.
Now, in the match between B and D, we found that B won the match but with a negative SD. To win the match, B has to score more than D in the third set. But to have a negative SD, the sum total of B's points must be less than that of D's.
Let the score be b-d in third set, 'b' scored by B and 'd' scored by D.
So, 10+21+b<21+14+d
⇒ b<d+4
⇒ b-d<4.
Only option B shows the score which satisfies this equation.
