S is to the north of P and to the west of T.
• Q is 5 meters to the north of P and 5 meters to the west of R.
• R is equidistant from P and T.
• PRT are the points along the same line while PQS are also along the same line.
• U is to the south of R but to the northeast of P.
• V is to the east of U and to the southeast of T.
Line VU is extended further and it meets line joining points PQ at point O. Now, in triangle SOV, all the sides are integers. If, SV is 17 meters and then find the distance TV.
  • a)
    √89 meters
  • b)
    9 meters
  • c)

Directions: Read the following information carefully and answer the q...
Q is 5 meters to the north of P and 5 meters to the west of R.
S is to the north of P and to the west of T. R is equidistant from P and T.
PRT are the points along the same line while points PQS are also along the same line.
As, PRT are along the same line and R is equidistant from P and T.
So, distance PR and distance RT is 5√2 meters.
Also, Q and S are to the west of R and T respectively.
So, distance PQ is equal to distance QS.
U is to the south of R and to the northeast of P.
V is to the east of U and to the southeast of T.
After extending line VU up-to line joining points PQ, we will get: -
In triangle SOV,
SV = 17 meters
OV > 10 meters
SO = 6/7/8/9 meters
Now, in right angled triangle SOV,
SV2 = SO2 + OV2
If SO = 8 meters, then only distance OV will be integer.
So, distance SO = 8 meters
Distance OV2 = 172 - 82 = 289 - 64 = 225
OV = 15 meters
Now, in triangle TZV,
TZ = SO = 8 meters
ZV = OV - OZ = 15 - 10 = 5 meters
TZ2 + ZV2 = TV2
TV2 = 82 + 52
TV = √89 meters
