The distance traveled by the car is the total distance covered during the entire journey, including both the trip from A to B and the return trip from B to A.
If the car travels at a constant speed of 50 km/hour for the trip from A to B, and the return trip from B to A at a constant speed of 40 km/hour, we can use the formula:

distance = speed x time

To find the distance traveled, we need to know the time taken for the trip. Let's assume that the time taken for the trip from A to B and return trip from B to A is t hours.

So, the distance traveled is:

distance = (50 x t) + (40 x t) = 90t
Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and final positions of an object, regardless of the path taken.

The car is moving from A to B and return along the same path, so Displacement is the distance between point A and point B.

Average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken for the journey.

Average speed = (distance traveled) / (time taken)

Average speed = (90t) / (2t) = 45 km/hour
Note that the displacement and average speed are independent of time.

So, the distance traveled is 90t, Displacement is distance between point A and point B and average speed is 45 km/hour.

Solution:

Given data:

Speed of the car in forward journey = 50 km/hour
Speed of the car in return journey = 40 km/hour

To find:

Distance travelled, displacement and average speed

Distance travelled:

Distance travelled by the car in forward journey = Distance travelled by the car in return journey
Let the distance travelled be 'd'.

Distance travelled in forward journey = Distance travelled in return journey = d

Total distance travelled = Distance travelled in forward journey + Distance travelled in return journey

Total distance travelled = d + d = 2d

Total distance travelled = 2d km

Displacement:

Displacement of the car is the shortest distance between the initial and final position of the car. As the car returns to the initial position, the displacement is zero.

Displacement = 0 km

Average Speed:

Average speed of the car is the total distance travelled by the car divided by the total time taken by the car to travel that distance.

Total time taken by the car to travel the distance in forward journey = Distance travelled / Speed of the car = d / 50
Total time taken by the car to travel the distance in return journey = Distance travelled / Speed of the car = d / 40

Total time taken by the car to travel the entire distance = d/50 + d/40

Total time taken by the car to travel the entire distance = (8d + 10d) / 400

Total time taken by the car to travel the entire distance = 18d / 400

Total time taken by the car to travel the entire distance = 9d / 200

Average speed of the car = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

Average speed of the car = 2d / (9d/200)

Average speed of the car = 400/9 km/hour

Therefore, the distance travelled by the car is 2d km, displacement is 0 km and the average speed of the car is 400/9 km/hour.
