Launch of Khelo India

Khelo India is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs on 31st January 2018. The scheme aims to encourage and promote sports in India by identifying and nurturing young talent. The main objective is to create a sporting culture in the country and make it a sporting powerhouse.

Objectives of Khelo India

The main objectives of the Khelo India scheme are as follows:

1. To promote sports among youth and encourage them to participate in various sports activities.

2. To identify and nurture young talent by providing financial assistance, training, and coaching.

3. To create a robust sports infrastructure in the country by constructing new sports facilities and upgrading existing ones.

Components of Khelo India

The Khelo India scheme has two main components:

1. Annual Competitions: Under this component, the government will organize annual competitions at the national level in various sports disciplines. These competitions will provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and earn recognition.

2. Talent Search and Development: Under this component, the government will identify and nurture young talent by providing financial assistance, training, and coaching. The scheme will provide scholarships to talented athletes and also set up academies for training and development.
