Thermionic emissions and photoelectric emissions are not the same.

Thermionic emission is the emission of electrons from a heated metal surface. This is used in vacuum tubes to create a flow of electrons from a heated cathode to a positively charged anode.

On the other hand, photoelectric emission is the emission of electrons from a metal surface when it is exposed to light. This happens when the energy of the photons in the light is greater than the work function of the metal, which is the minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron from the metal surface. This is used in photoelectric cells to convert light energy into electrical energy.
