Consider the following statements about the Harappan trade. A trading ...
The correct answer is option 'C' - Both 1 and 2.

Explanation:
The Harappan civilization, also known as the Indus Valley civilization, was one of the most advanced ancient civilizations that flourished in the Indus Valley region (present-day Pakistan and northwest India) from around 2600 BCE to 1900 BCE. The Harappan people were highly skilled in trade and had extensive networks that reached distant lands.

1. A trading colony was established in Northern Afghanistan to facilitate trade with Central Asia:
One of the major trade routes of the Harappan civilization was through the Khyber Pass, which connected the Indus Valley with Central Asia. To facilitate trade with Central Asia, the Harappans established a trading colony in Northern Afghanistan. This colony acted as a hub for trade between the Harappans and the people of Central Asia, allowing them to exchange goods and establish cultural and economic connections.

2. Dilmun and Makan were the two intermediate trading stations between Mesopotamia and Meluha:
Dilmun and Makan were two important trading stations that acted as intermediaries between Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq) and Meluha (the ancient name for the Indus Valley). These trading stations played a crucial role in facilitating trade between the Harappans and the Mesopotamians. The Harappans would bring their goods to these trading stations, where they would be exchanged for goods from Mesopotamia. This trade route helped in the exchange of various commodities like metals, textiles, and luxury goods.

Overall, the Harappan civilization had a well-established trade network that extended to various regions, including Central Asia and Mesopotamia. The establishment of a trading colony in Northern Afghanistan and the presence of intermediate trading stations like Dilmun and Makan highlight the significance of trade in the Harappan civilization and its connections with other ancient civilizations.

Consider the following statements about the Harappan trade. A trading ...
The Harappans had set up a trading colony in northern Afghanistan, which evidently facilitated trade with Central Asia. Their cities also carried commerce with those in the land of the Tigris and the Euphrates. Also the Mesopotamian records from about 2350 B.C. onwards refer to trade with Meluha, which was the ancient name given to the Indus region.  The Mesopotamian texts speak of two intermediate trading stations called Dilmun and Makan, which lay between Mesopotamia and Meluha. So both the statements are correct.
