In a certain school there is a grading system of results. A student has to appear for five subjects; viz. English, Maths, Science, History and Geography. Each subject carries 100 marks. The following grading system is followed while awarding a grade:
Let ‘S’ be the score of the student in a particular subject then,
Grade A: 90< />
Grade B: 80< />
Grade C: 70< />
Grade D: 60< />
Grade E: 50≤S≤60
The overall marks are calculated by summing up the marks in the individual subjects. Same grading methodology is applied while awarding the overall grade.
Note: All the students have scored more than or equal to 50 percent in all subjects.

If same grading methodology such as individual subject grading is applied for overall grades, then the range will be
Grade A: 450< />
Grade B: 400< />
GradeC: 350< />
Grade D: 300< />
Grade E: 250≤T≤300, where T is the sum of all the individual subjects
For Peter, let us assume maximum marks for each grade in different subjects
T = 70 + 60 + 60 + 60 = 250
Since, his grade is E, even if he score 50 marks in History, his grade will be still E.
Let us assume minimum marks for each grade in different subjects
T = 61 + 50 + 50 + 50 = 211
If he scores 81(grade B) in history, his overall grade is still E
If he scores 71(grade C) in history, his overall grade is still E
If he scores 61(grade D) in history, his overall grade is still E
Hence, his grade in history can be B, C, D and E. Therefore option D is a correct answer
