Directions: Answer the questions on the basis of information given below.
In the Regional Admission Test (RAT) - 2012 there were three sections, Reasoning Ability (RA), Arithmetic Ability (AA) and Technical Aptitude (TA), each comprising 25 multiple choice questions. Each correct response carried four marks and each incorrect response carried a negative one mark as penalty. There were no marks for the questions not attempted. Also, there were four form numbers of test papers viz., AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD in which the sequence of the three sections (RA, AA and TA) were different and they were labeled as Section I, Section II and III.
After the test, it was observed that there were some printing mistakes in the test papers, so the questions having mistakes were omitted while calculating the scores. But it was also found that the number of valid questions (questions having no mistakes) were not the same for the same section (e.g. RA) through all the four form numbers. So the RAT - 2012 organizing committee formulated a procedure to calculate the score for each section as follows:
  • First, the actual score is calculated considering only the valid questions as per the formula: 4 X number of correct responses - number of incorrect responses.
  • The percentage score for the section obtained is expressed as a percentage of the maximum possible marks in that section - i. e., the marks one can score in the section if he/she gets all the valid questions in that section correct.
For example:
In form DDD since there were only 23 valid questions in RA, the percentage score in RA for Form DDD is the actual marks obtained by the candidate as a percentage of the total valid marks in that section, i.e., 4 X 23 = 92 marks.
Hence, if the candidate's Test Form No. is DDD and he/she got 10 correct responses and 2 incorrect responses, then his/her actual score is 38 while his/her percentage score is 38/92 x 100 = 41.30%.

To understand the effect of invalid questions on the score of a candidate, consider the following table
From the above table, it can be inferred that to minimize the percentage score, a candidate should attempt the maximum invalid questions possible while to maximize the percentage score, a candidate should not attempt invalid questions.
As the percentage score is 50, the difference between their actual scores will be even because each question carries 4 marks. Hence options (2) and (4) are eliminated. Now it is given that their attempts in that section are 20 and incorrect attempt is at least 1 (N is a natural number).
So the difference between their scores cannot be 44. Therefore, the possible difference is 22.

Each correct response carried four marks and each incorrect response carried a negative one mark as penalty. There were no marks for the questions not attempted. Also, there were four form numbers of test papers viz., AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD in which the sequence of the three sections (RA, AA and TA) were different and they were labeled as Section I, Section II and III.After the test, it was observed that there were some printing mistakes in the test papers, so the questions having mistakes were omitted while calculating the scores. But it was also found that the number of valid questions (questions having no mistakes) were not the same for the same section (e.g. RA) through all the four form numbers. So the RAT - 2012 organizing committee formulated a procedure to calculate the score for each section as follows: First, the actual score is calculated considering only the valid questions as per the formula: 4 X number of correct responses - number of incorrect responses. The percentage score for the section obtained is expressed as a percentage of the maximum possible marks in that section - i. e., the marks one can score in the section if he/she gets all the valid questions in that section correct.
