This is a tricky question and we use some quick logic to justify the answer.
Now look at the table below.
For this table, we assumed a base value of 100 units for each of the regions in 2010 and made the calculations. Effectively, we have our multiplying factors for each of the years multiplied by 100.
Let's take the example of Analgesic sales in North India to understand the concept.
Now assume that the sales of Analgesics in 2010 in North India were N.
Thus sales in 2013 would be= 1.78596 x N (each successive percentage growth applied).
Now in our question we are given that the sales for all regions in 2013 are equal. Let us assume this value to be 100 units.
Therefore, we can see that
1.7896N = 100
N = 55.85
Thus, the Analgesics sales in North India in 2010 were 55.85 units.
For this question, we need to consider that sales in 2013 are same.
Using this logic, we can see that the minimum sales value in 2010 would be the one for which the multiplying factor is the maximum, that is West India, Antibiotics.
Assume the sales for West India, Antibiotics be W.
2.26W = 100
W = 100/2.26
W=44 units
The maximum sales value will be for the region for which the multiplying factors is the least, that is Antiseptics, North India.
Assume the sales for Antiseptics, North India be N.
1.039N=100
N=96.24
Hence, the correct option is (b).
