Directions: All the English alphabets are divided into 6 groups - 4 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 5 namely a (alpha), b (Beta), g (Gamma), j (phi), W (Omega) and q (Theta). Following information is known about the alphabets -
(i) All vowels are in one group which is not Gamma.
(ii) Letters between the 1st and 2nd vowel are in the same group
(iii) Letters at prime number positions greater than 10 but less than 20, are in the same group. (Numbering from A to Z: 1 to 26).
(iv) Letters between 2nd and 3rd vowel are in separate groups and also do not share the group with any letter in the groups above.
(v) Letter positioned at the last prime number, is in Group alpha and has letter 'B' in it.
(vi) The alphabets at the position of the roots of the equation x2 - 22x + 120 = 0, are in Theta which is not having the maximum number of letters.
(vii) Omega has the start as well as the end of 'Quiz'.
(viii) Alphabets at square numbers, still not a part of any group, are in separate groups and do not share the group with letter at prime number position.
(ix) Out of the alphabets left only 1 more is in that.
(x) Beta has one of the letters between the 5th and 9th position.
Q. If the letters in the abbreviation for "North Region" and "New York" are in same group, and that of "Hewlett Packard" and "Television" are in the same group. What can be said about letter 'X'?
(i) It is in a 4 lettered group but not in Beta.
(ii) It is in Theta but does not have 'N' or 'R' with it.
(iii) Letters 'J' and 'L' are in the same group as 'X'.
(iv) It is in Gamma and has 4 other letters with it.
  • a)
    Only (i) and (ii)
  • b)
    Only (ii) and (iii)
  • c)
    All of them are correct
  • d)
    Only (i), (ii) & (iii)
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?

Directions: All the English alphabets are divided into 6 groups - 4 g...
All vowels - a,e,i,o,u are in same group (a group of 5 letters). 1st vowel is a and 2nd is e. Letters between these are b,c,d. 11,13,17,19 are prime positions and letters on these positions are - k,m,q,s. Last prime position is 23, w is at that position. w is in alpha and also in the group of b. Hence alpha has w,b,c,d. The roots of the equation x2 - 22x + 120 = 0 are 10 and 12, j and l are the alphabets in theta, a group of 4 letters. Start and end of 'Quiz' are q and z. Omega has q,z. Hence Omega is a group of 5 alphabets - k,m,q,s,z. 1,4,9,16,25 are squared positions. But only 16 and 25 are the only ones not a part of a group. p, y are these alphabets. Beta has one of f,g,h. Based on this analysis, the following table can be made -
n,r and n,y are in the same group. h,p and t,v are in the same group. This means one group of alphabets is h,p,t,v and one is f,n,r,y. x is the only remaining alphabet and will be placed in group Theta.
Clearly (i), (ii) and (iii) are correct.
Hence, the correct option is (d).

The chief scientist of a major vaccine producing company has the responsibility to keep the formula of the vaccine confidential. He stores the formula in his e-device with 3 consecutive locks, all of which need to be unlocked to access the formula. The first of the 3 locks is a pattern lock, the second one is a numeric lock and the third and final one is an alphanumeric lock. The pattern lock is in the form of a regular hexagon with 6 distinct vertices A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, in that order. One needs to connect all the 6 vertices one after the another in any random order connecting each vertex only once and only one order of connecting the 6 vertices exists which will unlock the first lock. The numeric lock has a code of ABC, where A, B and C are single digit natural numbers. A is a multiple of 2. B is a multiple of 3, C is a multiple of 4 but not equal to A.The alphanumeric lock has a code MNPQRS, where M and N are alphabets and P, Q, R and S are digits. M and N have to be consecutive vowels or consecutive consonants, not necessarily in order. Two alphabets are said to be consecutive vowels if both of them are vowels and they are consecutive when all the 5 vowels are written in alphabetical order. For example, E and I are consecutive vowels, but A and O are not. Two alphabets are said to be consecutive consonants if both of them are consonants and they are consecutive when all the 21 consonants are written in alphabetical order. For example, D and F are consecutive consonants but D and V are not. For example, M and N can be A and E respectively or E and A respectively. P is equal to Base-Ten-Index of M. Q is equal to the Base-Ten-Index of N. R and S can only take binary values, that is, 0 or 1.Base-Ten-Index of an alphabet = Index of alphabet % 10, where Index of an alphabet is its position when all alphabets from A to Z are arranged alphabetically and a%b is the remainder when a is divided by b.For example, Base-Ten-Index of J = 10 = 0 , Base-Ten-Index of M = 13 = 3.The chief scientist can only set passwords/patterns which follow all of the conditions mentioned above.Based on the information given above, answer the questions that follow.Q.How many alphanumeric codes for the third lock are possible which necessarily have an A as one of the alphabets in the code?
