Direction: Read the following paragraph carefully and answer the foll...
Based upon the information in question, we can draw a table which shows number of coins of different denominations with different people.
∵ In each denomination, value of money is Rs. 120
∴ Total money with all four of them is 4 × 120 = Rs. 480
A is having average money with B, C and D
⇒ A= (B+C+D)/3
⇒ 3A = B + C + D
Adding A both sides
⇒ 4A = A + B + C + D
⇒ A = 120
∴ Total money with A is Rs. 120
⇒ 20 × 1 + 10 × 2 + {(x + y) ÷ 2} × 5 + 3 × 10 = 120
⇒ {(x + y) ÷ 2} × 5 = 120 – 20 – 20 – 30 = 50
⇒ x + y = 20
∴ Total number of coins with A = 20 + 10 + 10 + 3 = 43
It is given that total number of coins with A is average of total coins with B and D.
⇒ (120 – 20 – 60) + 20 + a + x + y + 3 = 2 × 43
⇒ (120 – 20 – 60) + 20 + a + 20 + 3 = 86
⇒ a = 3
Number of Rs. 1 coins with B is 25
∴ Total number of coins with B = 25 + 20 + 3 = 48
Hence, the correct option is (B).
