Sum of the three numbers:
- Let the three numbers be x, y, and z.
- According to the given information, x + y + z = 98.

Ratio between the first and second number:
- The ratio of the first number to the second number is 2:3.

- The ratio of the second number to the third number is 5:8.
- This can be represented as y/z = 5/8.

Solving the equations:
- From the ratio x/y = 2/3, we can write x = 2y/3.
- From the ratio y/z = 5/8, we can write z = 8y/5.
