A New Moon means there is a Crescent Moon in the sky.



A New Moon occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. During this phase, the Moon is not visible from Earth because the side of the Moon that is illuminated by the Sun is facing away from us. Instead, we see a dark or blank sky in the area where the Moon is supposed to be.



A Crescent Moon refers to the thin, crescent-shaped portion of the Moon that is visible just before and after a New Moon. This shape occurs because the Sun's light is only partially illuminating the Moon's surface, creating a curved edge. The illuminated portion of the Moon appears as a thin sliver, resembling a crescent shape.



During a New Moon, the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun. As a result, the side of the Moon that is lit up by the Sun is facing away from Earth. However, a small portion of the illuminated side becomes visible to us as a thin crescent-shaped sliver. This is due to the angle at which the Moon, Earth, and Sun are aligned.



- Full Moon: Occurs when the entire illuminated side of the Moon is visible from Earth.
- Half Moon: Also known as the First Quarter or Last Quarter Moon, it occurs when half of the illuminated side of the Moon is visible from Earth.
- Gibbous Moon: Refers to when more than half, but less than the entire illuminated side of the Moon is visible from Earth.



A New Moon does not refer to a full Moon, no Moon, or half Moon. Instead, it signifies the presence of a Crescent Moon in the sky. The term "New Moon" refers to the phase when the Moon is not visible to us because it is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, with only a thin crescent-shaped portion visible.
