Ratio of time taken by a boat to travel (K – 21) km upstream and (K +...
Let the downstream speed and speed of the stream is 4a and a km/h respectively.
So, speed of boat in still water = (4a –a) = 3a
So, upstream speed of boat = 3a – a = 2a
(3K + 1) distance travelled in upstream and same in downstream. Distance is constant.
So ratio of upstream speed and downstream speed = 2a:4a = 1:2
Ratio of upstream and downstream time = 2:1
So (2a – a) = 8
So a = 8
So speed of boat in still water = 3 x 8 = 24 km/h
Hence answer is option A
