**Problem:**
Find the total time taken by a boat to cover 225 km in upstream and 245 km in downstream, if the ratio of boat’s speed in still water and speed of stream is 4:1, respectively and difference between upstream speed and downstream speed of the boat is 8 km/hr?

**Solution:**
Let the speed of boat in still water and speed of stream be 4x km/hr and x km/hr respectively.

**Speed of boat in upstream:**
Speed of boat in still water - Speed of stream = 4x - x = 3x km/hr

**Speed of boat in downstream:**
Speed of boat in still water + Speed of stream = 4x + x = 5x km/hr

Given, difference between upstream and downstream speed is 8 km/hr
5x - 3x = 8
2x = 8
x = 4

**Speed of boat in still water:**
4x = 4 × 4 = 16 km/hr

**Speed of stream:**
x = 4 km/hr

**Time taken to cover 225 km upstream:**
Distance/Speed = 225/(4-4) = infinite (As speed in upstream will be negative)

**Time taken to cover 245 km downstream:**
Distance/Speed = 245/(16+4) = 12.25 hrs

**Total time taken:**
Infinite + 12.25 = Infinite (As time taken upstream is infinite)
Hence, the boat will never reach the destination if it goes upstream.
