Solution:

Given, the total distance covered by the boy = 20 km
Total time taken = 2.5 hours
Speed on foot = 5 km/hour
Speed on bicycle = 10 km/hour

Let the distance covered on foot = x km
Then, the distance covered on bicycle = (20 - x) km

Using the formula,
Speed = Distance / Time

We can find the time taken by the boy on foot and bicycle:

Time taken on foot = Distance / Speed = x / 5
Time taken on bicycle = Distance / Speed = (20 - x) / 10

Total time taken by the boy = Time taken on foot + Time taken on bicycle
2.5 = x / 5 + (20 - x) / 10

On solving the above equation, we get:
x = 10 km

Therefore, the boy covered a distance of 10 km on foot and 20 - 10 = 10 km on the bicycle.
