- The policy of British economic exploitation had brought the country to the brink of disaster.
- More than 90 lakh people died due to the terrible famine that fell between 1896 and 1900, but the neglect of the British rulers continued.
- In South India thousands of people died due to plague. Apart from this, the communal conflicts in South India caused immense damage to public and wealth.
- The partition of Bengal, dissatisfaction with the achievements of the liberals, development of education etc. were the reasons for the rise of the building of militant-nationalism.
