What will be the remainder if x is divisible by 17?Statements:I. x is ...
Given:
I. x is exactly divisible by 5.
II. x is exactly divisible by 85.
As we know,
A Number is divisible by 17 if it is a factor of a given number.
Statement I states that the number is completely divisible by 5, but 5 doesn't have 17 as one of its factors so we can not say that on dividing the number by 17 we get how much as the remainder.
Statement II states that a number is divisible by 85 which has 5 and 17 as its factors, so any number which is divisible by 85 is also divisible by 17 and leaves the remainder 0.
∴ Statement II alone, but not Statement I alone, is sufficient to answer the question.
