Why does an object float or sink when placed on the surface of water ?

So as we studied about 3 state of matter water or liquid is one of it.so the first reason is it's low intermolecular force which allow any object to sink or float in it .$ And second and main reason for any body to sink in water is it's high density than water.and to float is the low density than water.as u can also understand it as if any object displace the water equal to or more than it's mass then it float or if it can't displace the water as of it's mass then it sink.That's all.Hope it help u...

Yes this question can be answered.....It depends upon its density. If density of object is greater than water it will sink, if density of object is lower than water it will float and if density of object is equal to density of water than it will submerge i.e. it will float in middle of water

There r actually 2 reasons for the object whether it floats or sinks when kept on surface of the water the first one if its density is less than 1 it floats but if the density is more than 1 then it sinks in water nd the 2nd reason is due to the buoyant force hope u understand in case if u doesnt understand plz ask me bcz thats one of my fav chapter
